Top quality splitting maul from Council Tools. Council has been making hand tools since 1886, and they set the standard for quality and design. Council splitting mauls are designed to split and "bust" apart wood, with their heavy weight and wide protruding head. Council mauls feature a round striking face on the back, intended to be used like a sledge hammer, for driving steel splitting wedges on difficult wood. This maul comes with a straight 36" American Hickory handle with sledge style eye, which will give you substantial swinging power. The axe head is drop forged and tempered to Rc 45-50 for safety and toughness. Maul head has a clear lacquer finish to deter rust. Hickory handle is kiln dried before turning. Eye section is then dried below 10% moisture content prior to assembly. Handle is hydraulically inserted into head and secured with a serrated aluminum wedge, proving a very secure mechanical bond.
