The Portable Winch Company has now introduced the new lightweight model PCW3000 gas-powered Portable Capstan Winch, designed to take the misery out of the process.
At only 20 pounds (9,5 kg), stored in a custom high-strength case that attaches to a lightweight backpack frame, the PCW3000 can be easily carried wherever a person can walk. Pulling capacity is 1500 pounds (700 kg); power comes from a 35cc Honda four stroke engine which can operate in any position. The idea was simple: optimize the capstan principle (no limit to the length of rope) to build a portable winch that can be carried anywhere.
It's used with a rope instead of a steel cable, which makes the whole system even lighter. In this case 164 feet (50 m) of rope are stored in the vinyl bag that can also be attached to the backpack carrier. The hunting kit also includes a pulley to double the capacity to 3000 pounds (1400 kg), a polyester sling to anchor the winch to a tree and 2 carabiners. In addition to doubling the pull, the pulley also makes hoisting big game easy when you need to hang it. It can also be used for redirecting the rope to avoid obstacles. Moreover, it is very easy to use. Simply attach the winch to a tree, a stump or anything that is heavier than the load. Then, wrap the 3/8" (10 mm) rope on the capstan drum, start the engine and pull on the exiting rope. The pressure of the rope on the drum is enough to pull the moose!
