Council Tool Splitting Maul (7.0 lbs) Sledge Eye with 36" Hickory Handle

Top quality splitting maul from Council Tool. Council has been making hand tools since 1886, and they set the standard for quality and design. They recently discontinued their popular 8 lb and 6 lb splitting mauls, replacing them with a new design to "split the difference". The new 7 lb splitting mauls will bridge the gap between the often "too heavy" 8 lb mauls, and the "not heavy enough" 6 lb mauls.

Hung on a 36" straight sledge-style American hickory handle, the new design incorporates a more compact head, a concave-wedge shaped to the blade, and a wider body to give more "pop" to the split. The head is balanced from front to back, with a slightly tapered poll that can be used to "finish" a split, without having to drive the blade back into the opened split, These design features make it a better splitting maul, as it is more ergonomically balanced, safer, and a more efficient and productive tool to use at the woodpile.
