|Q.||Is there a rule of thumb for wedge size when falling trees or milling? I'm falling trees no bigger then 18-20" in diameter at the base and have never used wedges but recently decided it would be good for trees that are hard to fall where I want them to. Any advise? I'm also going to try chainsaw milling and need some wedges. I won't be milling logs over 18" and assume 5 1/2" wedges will do. Am I right? Thanks|
|A.||The 5.5" are going to be best for the milling application. With a 18" - 20' tree, a 8" or 10" wedge might be required depending on how much the tree is leaning.|
