Q.	The Echo CS-400 standard bar chain size (according to Echo) is 18". A local dealer told me that they order all their CS-400's with a 16" bar chain because the saw bogs down when cutting with the 18" chain. Do you recommend getting the optional 16" chain rather than the standard 18"?
A.	With any 41 cc saw it is possible in certain conditions that the 18" (or even the 16") could bog down if you use the full cutting edge. Excellent saw within its class

I've used this saw for just over a year now, and it's done everything I've asked it to. For limbing larger trees(12" limbs") it excels. For brushing out carraghana or black locust, same thing. In cold weather, it needs to warm up for a minute or so, but the winter air deflector in the air cleaner cover means that once it does warm up, you can run it all day in cold weather and snow without difficulty. Well balanced, you can work all day with it without feeling like you've had a run in with a street gang. The 14" or 16"bar would give it more power, but the 18" means less bending over(important once you're on the north side of 50), and I've got bigger saws if I need the power. Echo has once again produced a durable, quality product.

I love this saw

This saw is well balanced and has plenty of power. I've had mine for 2 seasons and am very impressed. Many small(er) limbing trimming saws have a gutless cheap feel, this one feels just right. Faults: -yes it is cold blooded (esp. in winter) -the stock anti kick back chain MUST go in lieu of a REAL chain WP 30LP -I think the 18" bar is too long for a light duty saw, I think 14" or 16" is a better match for this saw, seriously if I plan to sink 18" in a tree I'll use my 50cc or 60cc

Decent Saw

I've cut around a cord of wood with it so far and generally like the saw. It is light weight and easy to handle. The nose guard does help when poking into a log deck but it reduces the functional bar length. My bar is already wearing and I'm going to have to touch it up before I use it again which is frustrating for how little I've used it. The engine requires a good warm up before it will cut, in fact I thought there was something wrong with it at first until I figured it out. The thing does start easy and runs clean, no nasty 2 stroke stink in my mouth at the end of the day. I like the adjustable oiler, a nice pro feature and the kind of thing I expect from ECHO.

Great saw

Just bought this saw this afternoon and after 3 pulls straight out of the box. The chain saw starts, its great for cutting firewood and the plus's are the great weight distribution, gas consumption, safe t-tip for beginners,unique air cleaner, and overall pure power of this beast. I would recommend this to anyone.

Great saw!

I bought this saw three days ago and have used it the last two to drop a dozen trees and cut up another half dozen that the power company took down last fall. I have never had to pull it more than three times to start it, and after the initial start one pull does the job. It cuts great, nice and smooth. I used to have a small homeowner Stihl and this saw cuts every bit as good if not better. I would not hesitate to buy this saw again. Vibration is well controlled and the lightweight of the saw makes it a joy to use. I don't feel wore out at the end of the day. I really like that it has traditional caps for the oil and gas, makes it easy to wipe them clean before opening to keep dirt out.

good saw

Was looking for a good saw for 300 or so, and was looking for a good warranty. It sure starts easy but does need to warm up a bit before starting to use. I use it at 8300 feet elevation, so maybe that explains it. Plenty of power, efficient with fuel and quieter than my old Mculloch.
