LogRite 60" Aluminum Handle Cant Hook

Cant hooks are great for handling logs and cants or beams around the sawmill. Logrite offers 3 different sizes - 42" (CH 042), 60" (CH 060 and XCH 060) and 72" (MH 078) so you can match the cant hook with your job size. The aluminum handles on these cant hooks are stronger and easier to use than traditional wood handled cant hooks. The bright blue handle is easy to see around a sawmill or woodlot. The heat treated, zinc plated hook is built to last. The textured rubber grip is easy to hold. Cant hooks consist of a handle with a swing hook. A cant hook has a small toe hook on the end which provides a second biting edge.

Q.	What is the maximum log diameter this unit can handle?
A.	There really is no maximum as it will grab hold of any size wood. We like to say "If you think you can physically move it then this will get the job done"...

Can't beat this Cant Hook

We cut our firewood to 14-16" length right in the field. Mostly beetle kill lodgepole pine, up to 32" diameter. Besides a chain saw, if I had to pick a single tool to facilitate our firewood production it would be this one. Oh, yes, if you ever see a review that says someone bent their LogRite cant hook, they're lying...they probably ran over it with a truck. That's the only way I could see this monster could be bent. Great product.

Great tool for the job!

This is a beefy tool. The diameter of the handle was bigger than I thought it would be, but the beefiness gave confidence when I really threw my weight into the moving of a big piece of log. I was using this cant hook in conjunction w/ the LogRite Log Stand to manipulate logs and jack them for bucking. I'm not a big guy (160 lbs) and this tool allowed me to rotate and jack 10-12 foot sections of 16-18" diameter green pine (jacking at a point about 3-4 feet down the 10-12' section). This gave me 5-6 clean cuts for every 1 cut where I had to worry about dulling the chain with inadvertent ground/dirt contact. Also nicely positioned the log for safe, easy cutting. I only noticed 2 potential issues with this product: 1) the OCCASIONAL time where the cant wouldn't bite correctly and would rotate AROUND the log (vice rotating the log). (NOTE: this may be due to my inexperience/technique--and it happened mostly on smaller diameter logs and appeared to be affected by the log stand/jack, so may be complete non-issue for cant hook alone). 2) on the full force jackings, I did have the jack stand collar rotate about 15 degrees from perpendicular to the cant hook. The log stand/jack mates with the cant hook via a collar that "hugs" the round pipe of the log stand. This collar is fastend via 4 allen screws. I made them as tight as I could w/ the suplied allen wrench (which has a plastic keeper on the stand--nice touch), but either due to my inability to torque them down enough (by hand), or my trying to jack a little more weight than they intended, it resulted in the bit of slipage. I'll make sure I apply a little more force to obtain a better mating next time out, but wish they had provided a less-smooth inner surface to the log stand mating clamp, so it would bite in/mate more securely. BOTTOM LINE: Very pleased with the product, and what it allows me to do. Keeps my saw clean and the work moving smoothly and easily. Would definitely recommend despite my minor gripes. Baileys was quick on the shipping as well.
