Smart-Holder Firewood Holder

The Swedish are an innovative people and products like this prove it! The lightweight and affordable Smart-Holder was developed in Sweden by a lifelong woodsman. We had Sam Bailey test this innovative device: It was ready to go right out of the box and after using it to cut both small and large limbs, Sam gave it two strong thumbs up.

Smart-Holder eliminates awkward wooden sawhorses and allows you to easily and safely raise your firewood off the ground when cutting. The patented claw bites into the log holding it firmly in place allowing you to cut any length of log safely. The claw adjusts to hold logs from 1" in diameter up to 9" in diameter. The Smart-Holder is easily assembled in 15 seconds or less and folds flat for easy storage.

Measures 47" long x 38" high x 15" wide assembled and 47" x 16" x 2" when folded up for storage. Sturdy, all-steel construction, the Smart-Holder weighs 27 lbs.

Q.	The wood we have delivered is about 20 inches long and we have a stove insert and have to cut the logs down to 16-17 inches, would this work for our application?
A.	Yes, the Smart Holder only needs about 10 inches of log to grab, so this would work well for a second cut of your 20" wood.

Q.	Could I use this on 16 inch wood that's already been split? My stove says it takes 16 inch wood...but not all of it fits perfectly. I want to trim about 2 to 3 inches off.
A.	It needs about 10" to grab so you would have about 6" exposed to cut.

Q.	What is the largest diameter log will it actually take? The specs say only 9", it looks like is would be larger. Is there a weight limit? There must be a weight limit. At some point it will it tip over.
A.	Nine inches is the maximum diameter for the teeth on the swing gate to grab the log. There is no maximum length as the log can always be balanced toward the middle for very long logs, although no one has complained of tipping.

Q.	I use a handsaw to cut wood up to approx 24" in diameter. Would this product work in this application?

Q.	What size is the square tubing the Smart Holder made of? Also how tall is the opening that the limbs, or small logs, lay in? Thanks for the info.
A.	The tubing is 1-1/4" x 2", while the opening is just over 10".

Works exactly as advertised

The product came in a damaged box and a couple of parts were missing, easily replaced with parts in my shop. The unit took 15 seconds to assemble and is a real life-saver. Though I am only 56 I began to realize that I needed something to support the wood I was cutting without having to bear the entire weight, this unit does the trick. Additionally, it ensures that the saw does not end up in the dirt and I can drop many of the cut pieces right into a wheel barrow for easy transport. All-in-all it is a well made and very helpful unit. The only thing I noticed is that if you do not insert the log so that it is paralell to the legs it can tip over since it is not very wide, but that was only a problem once (I do learn quickly). I was easy to tear down and stores in very little space.

I haven't used the holder yet but was disappointed to see"engineered in sweden.made in china. It also was not ready to use"right out of the box".since it was assembled backwards. the gate which holds the wood was set up swinging forward instead of toward the back.Typical chinese quality control.

You can't live without it

This tool is everything it claims to be. It is very compact for storage and transport. When you move it around you can tell it is well-built - sturdy. I use mine for logs I can lift entirely by hand - up to 6" diameter. You might consider resting a cart or wheelbarrow under your log while cutting so you don't have to bend over and pickup all the pieces you have cut.

Just got this, and it's great. Aside from letting you saw standing up, it saves chain damage too. With this tool I produced one half cord of stove wood from logs I wouldn't have considered harvesting before in a very short time!! GREAT TOOL! STAY SAFE.

I got Smart-Holder some time ago and works very well, however you should check it over when you get it. When I got one in the mail from Bailey's, one of the wing nuts had come lose and it was just luck that it did not fall out of the box during shipping as the box had a hole hole cut in it by the manufacturer (they may not do that any more) After I used it a few times I lost an end cap on the base. This did not affect the use in anyway. I emailed the manufacturer and they put me in contact with the US distributor who sent me a new end cap for free. Nice.

Very "Smart" tool

As good as it gets for a portable saw horse/buck tool. It sets up and moves easily and it holds wood firmly. It's an added benefit that it allows for virtually all necessary cuts with little or no ongoing adjustment or movement of the material being cut.

I agree with the other posters... this is a great item. I've used it on pieces from about 2 inch diameter up to eight inches and in every case it held securely and at at back saving height. Made quick work of all of the small diameter pieces from a large log pile... saved a couple hours and a back ache.

This thing is great. It is light, but strong, and my back wasn't sore after using it all day. Also, its probably safer than cutting stuff on the ground by your boots.
