Buck Brothers 1-1/2" Firmer Gouge

Buck Brother chisels and gouges are great for general timberframe and log home construction. Hardwood handles are leather capped to resist chipping. Preferred by log home builders for removing the final wood from the notch in a log. Overall length is 12".

A.	The overall length is 12 3/8" and the blade is 6 1/4".

Q.	Is the gouge made out of the high carbon steel for keeping the edge sharp longer?
A.	I'm not sure what the exact carbon content is on these particular gouges but, they are manufactured by a company called Buck Brothers from Millbury MA. They've been doing it for 150 years. When you consider the quality of gouge you get for the amount of money you spend. They're a good buy.

Q.	Is the handle of the chisel sturdy enough to use a metal hammer on it? Or, would I need to buy a plastic dead blow hammer?
A.	The handle does come with a leather cap to resist chipping if using a metal hammer.

Good bang for your buck

I bought this gouge a while back. When I received it I had to sharpen it since it wasn't sharp, should come razor sharp. Overall its a good product and for the price. You cant get a better quality gouge...
