They are just nylon, so they will not shrink, but they do not stretch like cotton so it's best to error towards the bigger sizes. The only waterproof pants we have is typical rain gear at this time. These could be sprayed but then they wouldn't breath and you would end up just as wet from the sweat.

The waterproof climbing pants on the market are about 4-5 times this price and resemble ski pants.

I really like the Tech pants for tree work aloft. I use them in a hot humid environment...even when worked in all day, washed that night, hung out to dry, they are always ready to go for the next day's work. On a hot day when the sweat is running, they dry out fairly quickly, and don't leave you sitting in nasty clammy wet trousers! The cargo pockets are in just the right spot, they are still accessible when wearing a climbing harness. The fabric is more forgiving than the cotton Arborwear for climbing around in the trees, more flexible. Just wish they were not quite so expensive...saving for another pair...
