Yes, this is 404 pitch .063 gauge chain will work on your saw. We like to suggest you count the drive links of the old chain if possible.

First of all this is not the chain that is used on the Lucas Slabbers. They use Oregon's 27RX Super Skip chain (not for handheld use). The sprocket for the dedicated slabber is a 14 tooth harvester one that splines onto the drive hub.

The biggest question when choosing a new chain is what pitch and gauge bar you plan on using it on. This chain is .404 pitch with .063 gauge. The Stihl MS 660 generally came stock with .375 pitch sprocket. Your current bar could be either .050 or .063. So having said that, if your 28" bar is running

The Stihl MS 660 generally came stock with .375 pitch sprocket. Your current bar could be either .050 or .063. So having said that, if your 28" bar is running .404 chain (43RP for the ripping chain) it would take about 82 drivers. If you are running .375 pitch then you would need 91 drive links. Ripping chain for .050 gauge would be 30RP. Ripping chain for .063 would be 33RP. (Hide full answer) |

If your in question about getting this, do it. This chain has been great. The cutters stay sharp longer than I would have thought when milling. I'm very happy with this product. Buy a reel and make up a few xtra loops to bring with you to your job for less downtime. Buy a grinder also. Thanks Baileys!

This chain works great I cut up some oak two by fours and it tears right through them with my stihl 084 like nothing. I will be interested to see how fast it goes through Box elder.

Ripping chain is specifically designed to cut efficiently with the grain of the wood, unlike standard saw chain. It is most commonly used to slab logs, burls and stumps. Most people use it with chainsaw powered sawmills such as the Alaskan Sawmill or Beam Machine. Ripping chain gives you a smooth, consistent surface when cutting parallel to the grain of a log. On the contrary, standard saw chain is designed to sever wood across the grain, and when you saw parallel to the grain, your cutting speed falls dramatically, and your sawn surface becomes very rough.
