I want to purchase ripping chain for a Stihl Farm Boss MS290. I purchased this saw new this spring. Presently the saw has an 18" bar. What would be the best ripping chain for this bar? Would I be better off using a 16" bar for ripping?

This WoodlandPro 33RP ripping chain is the right fit for your bar and saw. Just put in 115 drive links into the quantity section and you will be good to go. If you want more than one chain, you'll have to do that process for as many chains as you need.

Do you have it in "full complement" chisel cutter ripping chain? I was told to use only Full complement or Full skip chains when milling.

Our WoodlandPro ripping chain is full compliment. That means one space between each cutter. Full skip is 2 spaces between each cutter. We do not offer full skip ripping chain, but that can be made on your grinder.

Check your sprocket first. Most 070s came with .404 pitch. This is a 3/8 pitch chain. We do offer .404 ripping chain though (WP404 43RP). To find a bar you can use the bar selector to see all the choices. However at 72" there is one choice and that is our WoodlandPro bar - BAWP 72 BS63.

However, in your question you state your Husqvarna Rancher has an 18" bar, but the bar stats indicate 20". If the bar stats you listed are correct, then 72 drivers of 30RP ripping chain will suit. Ripping chain is specifically designed to cut efficiently with the grain of the wood, unlike standard saw chain. It is most commonly used to slab logs, burls and stumps. Most people use it with chainsaw powered sawmills such as the Alaskan Sawmill or Beam Machine. Ripping chain gives you a smooth, consistent surface when cutting parallel to the grain of a log. On the contrary, standard saw chain is designed to sever wood across the grain, and when you saw parallel to the grain, your cutting speed falls dramatically, and your sawn surface becomes very rough.
