For the price it isn't a bad saw. It has a lot more plastic than I would like to see on what might be considered a Pro saw. The lanyard hook is all plastic, the body that the bar lies against is all plastic. Where the choke is being separate from the On/Off/throttle takes a bit of getting used to. There is a plastic stem that is part of the choke mechanism that looks like it isn't very robust. It has a fair amount of compression so it isn't easy to start cold. I would make sure it is warmed up and easy to start before climbing a tree with it. The power and speed seem to be good. I have used the Husky 338 saws mostly and the Stihl 200T saws. They are expensive saws but a bit better built in my opinion. If this saw doesn't have anything break in the next year then I would buy another one. The one thing it does tell you is to use a much richer oil/fuel mixture for the first couple of tanks which I am doing. After that we'll see if the performance picks up at all. If the saw has that much power compared to the others it should come stock with a 16" bar I would think.

I'm a ISA arborist and forester who primarily uses Stihl products. Every saw I have purchased has required some tuning for optimal performance (6000+ ft msl). The Solo 637 is the first saw I can reasonably compare with the Stihl 200T. Pros - At this altitude power feels moderately better when compared to the Stihl. The chain-brake design on the Solo appears to be more robust. Cons - The needle bearing on the Solo is very small for the power output which makes me question it's durability. Stihl's needle bearing is almost twice as large. The kill switch is located right where your thumb ends up for leverage when cutting, creating unintended stops. Stihl has theirs slightly to the right so that doesn't happen. Solo could also use some help in the oil and fuel cap area from Stihl. Overall - Although Stihl's engineering has spoiled me, I would purchase another Solo as the price and power make up the difference for me.

I operate a tree service business and have always ran Stihl but after purchasing this solo 637 I will purchase another one. It has good power and balance. The only thing I have found is the air filter needs cleaned often, but that's not a big job.

I had a previous customer send me this saw. As a gift and I must tell you that it beats hands down any of my other climbing saws it has great torque and holds just enough fuel to get most trees dismantled on 1 tank. Thank you Baileys for offering such wonderful equipment.

The solo 637 has a 40 cc engine and a supposed 2.6 hp. I am a professional line clearance trimmer and have been thru every top handle saw on the market. Echo, Stihl, Husqvarna, and now Solo. The 637 right out of the box needed some fine tuning to the carb. It was sluggish to get up to speed, the high rev was almost not even there and the power was a joke. However, after some airfilter adjustments and some carb adjustments the saw is running smooth. If you can get a good enough price and you know how to fine tune a saw for your applications then the 637 is not a bad saw. The reason Stihl thinks they can get away with charging so much for the 200t is because it IS the best top handle trim saw for professionals. At 2/3 the price, and if you know what you are doing, you can make the 637 strong competition. However, that is all it will ever be, competition. It will never be a 200t replacement so don't expect it.

I'm not an arborist, but I was looking for the most lightweight chainsaw that could be applied to general trimming. The Solo is much less tiring to use for trimming than my Husky 372XP. This saw performs as I had hoped it would with plenty of power for its size and the workmanship and design of the saw is excellent. I looked at other makes of saws in this category and found them to be much more expensive and in some cases not as well made. The top handle takes a little getting used to, but after I used the saw for three days I felt more comfortable with it. The only improvement that I would recommend to Solo would be to add a decompression feature for easier starting when cold. Then there's the warranty (2 years commercial) - best in the business, which tells me that Solo has absolute confidence in this saw. This was another reason why I chose this saw. As with any chainsaw, please follow all safety recommendations when using this saw.
