Simpson Capstan Rope Winch

The Capstan rope winch is an all metal winch with heat treated gears and shafts that easily adapts to your chain saw. The adapter, an 8 foot tether cable and a loop of cutterless drive chain are included. Simply tether the capstan rope winch to either the load-end you wish to haul, or it can be anchored away from the load which is then pulled to the winch. A slight pull on the rope's free end will start the winch pulling.

Q.	What country is this winch manufactured? Your data says "2000 lbs with a 3 cu in saw". Competitors say "2500 lbs with 3.5 cu in saw". Are these really both the same rating or are the competition heavier duty? You advertise 3/8" rope. Would this work equally well with 5/8" or 3/4" rope?
A.	These winches are made in the US. Yes, we are talking about the same machine. The winches maximum potential is at 3.5 cu.in. This winch is rated with 3/8" rope because of the diameter of the capstan spool. If you were to use larger rope, you wouldn't get enough wraps of rope on the spool to make it ... Q.	Beside chainsaw, can I use other machine to operate?
A.	Yes, other power sources could be used. This winch has a large gear reduction. The power source would have to be high rpm or the winch line would be very slow.

Q.	Once you pull give the rope “A slight pull on the rope's free end will start the winch pulling”. Is the load being pulled enough to keep tension on the Capstan to keep it pulling until you stop the saw, or do you need to keep tension on the slack end to keep it pulling?
A.	Yes, you need to keep tension on the slack end.

Q.	I intend to use the 49470 Capstan Rope Winch and your 49475 Capstan Rope 3/8" for lifting load (using various snatch blocks arrangement) of about 1700lbs maximum. Is this ok? Can I use steel cable rope instead? Do you sell rope up to 300'?
A.	We don't recommend using this device for lifting because there isn't a brake. The capstan drum is aluminum so steel cable can't be used. The rope, item 49475, is a 300' hank.

A.	The 3.5 cu in is just the minimum to get the full pull. You can use on any size saw.

Q.	Have had trouble with drive chain getting hot. Is there a different bar setup with oiler to keep chain cooler. winch has 2500 cap. running on 044 with 8 tooth sprocket works great but oil just flies off.
A.	Unfortunately that is normal unless you have a saw with an inboard clutch that you may be able to run direct.

Capstan winch

Very handy and tough little rig. We pulled a large Moose whole, about six different hook ups all the way to our river boat. The distance to pull anything is unlimited. It leaves you in full control with your pulling, simply let go of the tail end and the pulling stops.
