Any 45 cc saw is fairly limited in the amount and size of milling it can do. You could do small jobs on logs 16" or less.

It depends on your application, both have there place. For edging, vertical cut, applications this mill works well.

The max would be approximately 20" for softwood, 16" for the real hardwoods. We recommend using a narrow kerf or ripping chain.

If you are just making single Cants it can be done with the Mini Mill. If you are after dimensional lumber than you should also consider the Standard Alaskan Mill for the Small Log Alaskan Mill.

Yes, these will work together. The one thing you'll need to watch is where you place the mill on your bar. So say if you're milling a 16" diameter log and you have your mill attached to the bar close to the powerhead. This will leave quite a bit of bar extending past the log. You'll need to be sure

Yes, these will work together. The one thing you'll need to watch is where you place the mill on your bar. So say if you're milling a 16" diameter log and you have your mill attached to the bar close to the powerhead. This will leave quite a bit of bar extending past the log. You'll need to be sure that the log is high enough off the ground so your bar doesn't hit the ground. If you aren't going to be lifting your logs, you can slide the mill down your bar so there isn't as much bar exposed towards the ground.

Once the first cut is made the slabbing brackets are of no use. You would rely on a level cut all the way through till there was no more.

As you have guessed this product wouldn't be the best resource or lumber, but it can be done taking a lot more time and effort. However in using the Stihl 290 with any chainsaw accessory means long cuts. You probably would do well with the Granberg Small Alaskan Mill #G777 and simply go slow with yo

I bought the Mini-mill at the same time as my Alaskan Mill and works really good to do the vertical cut on one side to have 2 square sides that way I don't need to turn the log to mill boards. It's easy to setup and install on the saw and would recommend using at least 60 cc or better to mill hardwood. A great companion to the Alaskan Mill and a big time saver... Thanks.

After looking at all the similar products, I decided on the Granberg Mini-Mill. Some reviews of competing brands stated that they were not very accurate. My purpose was to mill a small amount of lumber for my own use, and this has done a perfect job. I've cut some 3+" by 14" for a project. The thickness varies by less than 1/16" over the 14" width and the cuts are straight. Unfortunately, I'm enjoying this so much that I will soon be forced to buy an Alaskan mill and larger saw! If you need fairly good accuracy or just a small amount of milling for your own use I would highly recommend the Mini-Mill.
