Q.	What is the minimum bar length required?
A.	All you need is enough bar to bolt 4 inches too and enough sticking out the end to cut the depth you require. Minimum bar length only depends on the job you have to do.

Q.	How big of a saw can you use and how large of a bar? Would this work well with the 3120 and a 42 inch bar?
A.	Technically any size bar will work fine on this little unit. You just bolt it to your bar and no limits (except your ability to handle a larger bar in this guide) to bar size. Q.	Do you have to do any drilling? Or is this just a pinch method?
A.	No drilling necessary, it just clamps right on (pinch method).

Q.	What is the minimum width board I can cut with this device? It would appear from the 2x4 size and offset of the connector that it'll cut 6" minimum.
A.	Any log that you can attach a 2x4 to will work with the Beam Machine.

A.	That depends on the tolerances you are after. It can come close, and we've used it for that purpose, but on a 14" x 14" you might be looking at 1/8" tolerance best case. An Issue of precision

My wife and I spent a few months last summer milling about 250 timbers 8' to 18' long for a house. Timbers were primarily 9"x9". We tried to use the Beam machine but found it lacked the precision to give use consistently satisfactory results so we went back to the Accutech Micro Mill which served us well. By contrast the Beam Machine's construction, fit and finish are pretty crude and in the copy we bought it translated to a reduced level of accuracy in the milled timber. The guide plate was not perfectly perpendicular to the bar clamp. Using as 2x4 for a guide rail vs. the Micro mill's 2X6 seemed to introduce more instability --side to side-- as you cut. This was aggravated by the pressure applied when you used the dog teeth to increase cutting pressure. The dog tooth concept is a good idea for increasing cutting speed (which was the main reason I tried it) but the construction of the teeth (essentially punching holes through the steel guide plate and leaving punch out partially attached and sticking down to hook the guide rail) was uneven so the Beam machine did not always sit flat on the guide rail. The dog teeth also chewed up the 2X4 guide rail and I assume after a number of passes this would require the rail to be replaced as it became more uneven. In my opinion, if you have a few rough landscape timbers to mill this is a good inexpensive solution but if you need to maintain sufficient precision to use the timbers for construction purposes, another piece of equipment such as the Micro Mill or an Alaskan Saw Mill is a much better solution.

Does a good job

This is a very simple device and the fit and finish are pretty crude but it works well. For cutting flats and squaring beams I think this is a better choice than the Alaskan type mills. I used it to flatten the sides of some maple logs to use as landscape timbers. Cutting is slow with a regular chain but the cuts were accurate, if a little rough. I'm planning to build a vertical log sauna using this.
