I am looking for this Maasdam Pow' R-Rope Puller but it seems you don't sell the rope? If you do can you email me the item number?

We recommend using New England 3-Strand Safety Blue. Just search for item number 12SB in the search box at the top of our website.

| Q. |
I use 9/16 lines for all my rigging. Will they fit?
|
| A. |
We contacted the manufacturer on this issue and they recommended the 1/2" only.

| Q. |
As this question shows, I am inexperienced with this. What I am looking for, and what this seems to be, is a puller that I would call "continuous." That is, in contrast to what I call a come-a-long that has something like 6-12 foot range (then you have to disconnect and open the cable and start over) I want one that you can crank continuously. The rope just moves through the ratchet. This seems to be such a device. Question: is that right? thanks, rws
|
| A. |
Yes, there is no limit of rope you can feed through this.

| Q. |
I am using the New England 3-Strand Safety Blue rope with the rope puller. I spliced an eye on the end of the rope so I can loop it through the rope end and draw it against the tree. Since this is a choke type pull on the tree would you reduce the 1500 lb pull capacity to a 725 lb safe pull capacity at 50% or does the rope have a higher choke capacity and you can pull the rope at the 1500 lb capacity.
|
| A. |
If the eye is not positioned so that is not being pulled on, the full 5 to one work load of safety blue 6300 =1260lbs. Also depends on the quality of the splice. All this is based on new material too.

| Q. |
Do you carry or recommend a crane scale, dynamometer, or hanging dial scale connected to the end of the puller so you know that you are safely withing the working limit of the puller?
|
| A. |
The manufacturer's guidelines should always be followed, with all products. You may wish to contact the manufacturer directly. Bailey's is a distributor and is unable to offer this type of advice.

| Q. |
Do they make a rope puller to handle 5/8' rope
|
| A. |
Sorry, there are no ratchet pullers that take 5/8" rope. If you need more strength, a good suggestion is the 3 ton ratchet puller using Amsteel Blue - #17435.

| Q. |
I am considering this puller with rope 12SK. I will get the rope up in the tree with a weighted throw line. What kind of choker will I need once I am ready to pull the line up. Can an eye be added to this rope. or will item 21700 do the job? I am taking down some Southern pine trees that are about 125 ft tall, and I need to control the lay as I am working around a house and fences. Any help or suggestions will be much appreciated.
|
| A. |
First of all the Maasdam puller is meant to work with a sturdy 3 strand rope only. As far as suggestions in taking down the tree with houses, people and fences around, best you consult a bonded and insured arborist.

| Q. |
Hi,I'm looking to use this device for tensioning trees before I cut and wedge them. Several months ago I was doing a job in a remote waterfront location and I had to tension a tree both in the direction I was felling it, and up hill away from the waterline to keep the tree from pulling that direction. I used a 3-1 haul and a 5-1 haul, and a team of men. We would tighten, tie off, tighten tie off.. Anyways, this rope puller could possibly made for a far easier time then my hauls as I wouldn't have to reset the position of my block mid line.So my question: once this rope puller is on a line, can it be taken off of the line while keeping the line under tension (so i could move it to a different line and then tension that one)?
|
| A. |
It can be done, but there are diverse methods as well as on site dynamics. Your safest bet is to invest in another Maasdam.

| Q. |
Given that the rope you recommend has a strength rating much higher than the pulling capacity of the device, could I use a snatch block to double the line back to the load or anchor and increase my pulling capacity? Assuming I don't tie the bitter end off to the body of the device itself could I expect to achieve 3000lbs pulling force using a snatch block?
|
| A. |
The Maasdam Pow' R-Rope Puller is rated "straight line pull" any mechanical advantages applied must not exceed the rope or puller's rating.

| Q. |
Would it be safe to use an 11 mm static rope with this puller? It is a bit smaller than 1/2 " but I have 165' on hand.
|
| A. |
In carefully going over their recommendations they do explicitly say 1/2". Moreover the unit is designed around using 1/2" 3 strand rope. Other multi-strand ropes would be more malleable and not offer the grip within the mechanism as the tougher 3 strand rope. See #12SB for a good 3 strand
