Good for the fireplace insert, not for the wood st

These liquefy when you light them and run through the wood to the floor of your firebox. I can see it working great --IF-- you don't have an ash pan in your stove/fireplace. If you do, it just runs through the grate and burns in the ash pan, which doesn't do much for starting a fire. I gave it a 3-star since in the right situation, it would work. For use in my stove (Jotul F500) it's not very helpful.

Excellent Starter

I've been using this product for about 5 years for starting charcoal grills, inside fireplaces and out side bonfires. Easy to carry around and easy to start. I rarely use kindling and can start DRY split firewood with one pouch 95% of the time. It is a safe product but you have to have some patience. With charcoal it may appear to be only creating smoke as there is much less flame then with lighter fluid can options. Be patient it will start and get up to speed just as fast without lighter fluid flavor. Setting the firewood or charcoal so the pack drips in the center and where you want it can be quickly mastered. I recently ran out of pouches and bought a bottle of lighter fluid. It made lots of flames but I had to keep re-applying more liquid (not always safe) to get a result.

start fire easily

I just got back from skiing at Steamboat Springs Colorado and the condo I stayed in had these to start fires and I fell in love. Simple and easy. And it works! Now I won't have to keep kindling in the house 24/7. If I don't have any on a winter evening then I will just use a fire starter!
