Other keep them until there is a hole. Either way they should definitely be replaced if there is any sort of hole or opening that that allows direct air flow. They can be cleaned with air. I tried getting this answered over the phone twice, but no luck, so I thought I would try here. I bought this filter for my M S660 which is listed in the models this filter fits. When I take the cover off and then remove the original air filter there is a plastic cover with slots over the intake(?), and it looks like its supposed to stay there.With this plastic cover on, what am I supposed to do with the green inside filter, if I just put the filter on with the green one in, it just gets smashed to the top, if I try to stretch it around the plastic shroud the air filter will not fit on, if I take the green filter out it just fits like a regular filter, beats the purpose of buying the HD.How is this supposed to work with my saw.Thank you

The foam inner filter is optional. If you use the foam, the plastic baffle should be removed. If you're not going to use the foam, the plastic baffle stays in place.

Yes, this aftermarket heavy duty air filter will fit the stock Stihl MS 441.
