| Q. |
I have chain saw Blue Max (some off brand manufacturer?). The original chain was Oregon 21VB 18" 72 links 0.058 gauge. Is 95VP-72 compatible?
|
| A. |
Because your original chain is .058 gauge you would not want to run this .050 gauge chain in the bar. It would seem to fit if tried, but soon you would notice it impossible to make a straight cut and that your bar would wear very fast. If you want to stick with the same bar and try a more aggressive

It would seem to fit if tried, but soon you would notice it impossible to make a straight cut and that your bar would wear very fast. If you want to stick with the same bar and try a more aggressive chain I'd suggest the "28RC" (search), which is .325 x .058 gauge chain. It has no anti-kickback features. We also sell the 21LP, which does have a bumper drive link and is close to that same chain.

| Q. |
I have an old Stihl 028 super chainsaw with an 18" bar. What size Oregon chain do I need?
|
| A. |
Those models Stihls could have come with either a 3/8 pitch or .325. If your bar still has the numbers on it, quite often it will let you know the pitch and gauge of chain you require. Most of the time we ask our customers to get the small numbers off the drive links themselves. When in doubt, have

| Q. |
I have two saws that I think are OK for this chain. They are a Sears 2.8ci with 18" bar and a homelite timberman 45cc with 18" bar ( both use .325 pitch, .050 gauge, 72dl cutting chain ). My question is, are these saws compatable with "narrow kerf technology"as described on the Oregon 95VP saw chain? I don't know if I have narrow kerf bars or not. THANKS FZ

| A. |
We have people use this chain on standard bars all the time. The difference in thickness between the 2 styles of bars is minimal (Approx .015"). It is possible to get chip bound easier but, not common place.
