Lewis Chainsaw Winch Model 400

Turn your chainsaw into a portable winch. Simply take off your bar and chain and attach the Lewis Winch and you have an incredibly powerful pulling unit. The Lewis Winch is handy for winching small logs for firewood, pulling game animals from remote locations, slash clearing, even pulling a car out of a ditch, there are hundreds of uses. The Lewis Winch 400 MK2 fits most all chainsaws. You should have a 3 cubic inch (50cc) saw or more to get maximum use of your Lewis Winch. It will pull up to 4,000 lbs. with a larger saw (5 cubic inch / 85cc) and the line speed is approximately 60 ft. per minute. Comes complete with 150' of 3/16" cable with hook. Anchor chain and saw not included.

Q.	How do you anchor the winch down? It looks like a chain saw provides power.Do you have large come-a-longs with same 4,000lb pull?
A.	There is an anchor clevis on the bottom of the winch. Most peole use a chain, or a wire rope. Check out the 17420 - 2 Ton Ratchet Puller

Q.	What saws can you use with this? Can you use a 15 year old McCulloch?
A.	This winch will fit almost any mid to large size saw out there, as long as it isn't a gear drive.

A.	It can perform all of the above with the right saw; i.e., a saw with an outboard clutch (chain brake in not part of side cover). When you disengage the spool the same brake can be used to precisely release the load. However, there is no "power out" function per se . Summary: with the right saw all the above can be performed with this machine. With no saw chain brake you only have a manual hand break on the drum and the release. (Hide full answer)

Q.	Will Lewis Winch Model 400 work with my Stihl MS 260 Pro Chain Saw Or do I need adapters?
A.	t comes with all the adapters to work on any saw. Of note is your 260 pro is just over 3 cu in, to get the full 4000 straight line pull you need 5 cu in. So you might want to consider a snatch block, item LW N1003, to double you pulling capacity and to redirect the load when needed.

Q.	How do you secure the winch so you can pull the load?
A.	There are lots of examples in the PDF on the page of this product. Trees, trucks, stumps, rocks, basically anything can be used to secure the winch. There are also attachments, like item LW N1012 for the ball of a truck. But a strong strap, rope, wire or chain can all be used too.

Q.	would this product work well for pulling whole trees around12'' at the bottom? and how fast does the line pull in?
A.	Pull power is listed. Speed depends on the beefyness of your chainsaw. Of course with all winching, you don't want to push it too hard.

Q.	From looking at the Lewis Winch website it seems that there have been some recent improvements in the winch design. Is the Lewis Winch that Bailey's sells the most up to date and current design or have these been sitting on a shelf for several years?
A.	The last lot of our Lewis Winches to come in was Mid December 2011.

Lewis Winch on Hunting Boats

I took a picture with my phone at the Shiawassee River State Game Area and I counted 15 Lewis Winches in the area parking lot on one day. The Shiawassee River State Game Area is 10,000 acres of Managed hunting flooded crop land and marshes. We have to draw at 5am for morning hunt and 11am for afternoon hunts, kind of like a lottery you are issued a number and then a draw to pick an area and you have to hunt your area you pick. Some times we have to pull our boats over as many as 3 dikes to get to some areas... that’s where the Lewis winch is a must . I bought my original winch from Mr. Lewis some 20 years ago and it is still going strong. I guess I started a fad cause if I take a guess there are at least around 100 Lewis Winches being used on the area. We have 2 local dealers one in Saginaw (Wolfhiel Hardware) and one in St.Charles (Bares Sporting Goods) and they send me a lot of mounts and repairs so all is well. Thanks for a great product. Lewis Winch saves the Day

Hi Guys. My wife and kids took a bit of a wild winter ride on our snowy driveway last night. They got part way up, lost traction and slid backwards on the 15% grade for about 40 very anxious feet. In three easy pulls, the winch walked the car up the remaining 200 feet like champ. No snatch block, it pulled the car (a Nissan Maxima) with far greater ease than most of the logs I've dragged around the forest. The saw is a 71cc Husky. I would have shot some video but it was after dark; maybe next time. This is a tool that my wife now fully supports!! Scott M., Pemberton, BC

Lewis Winch

I have been on seven successful Maine moose hunts where we have taken moose from 600 to 960 pounds. Last year we had one down that only weighed slightly over 600 pounds. We had just started to get the moose out and was looking at least three or fours hours of very hard labor. Another hunter came along and stopped. He was a guide and inquired if he could help. He produced one of your winches, very used, and within 30 minutes the moose was in the back of our trailer. I'd never seen anything like it and knew that I would have to have one before another moose hunt. As luck would have it my hunting partner got a permit for this year. As you can see my hunting partner got a permit. I did purchased the winch, hitch mount, anchor, tree saver belt and a couple other items in part from Bailey's. I also had to purchased another chain saw as mine wasn't able to adapt to the winch. My saw, big enough in cc, was thirty years old and my saw shop stated that it just wasn't compatible with the winch. I had to call your company several times before I was able to get what I needed. The lady that answered the phone and the gentleman that I talked to about which saw he recommended led me to a Sthil saw. Both people were extremely helfpful. The saw, a perfect fit to the winch after I purchased a spacer. Their help was greatly appreciated and made everything right. The first day of the hunt this year in Northern Maine produced three different sightings of bulls and one that we didn't see that we called to within 50 yards. Anyway, late in the first day we took a 800 pound moose and the winch paid for itself with that one animal. A hunter from Va. was there when we got the moose out and he was just like everyone else - in awe of the winch.

lewis wench

I bought one and all the other stuff. Put a Husqvarna saw on it. Had to use the universal bracket on it and that is were it started. After 1 hr I got it on. Went out to use it and I must of kinked the cable, it broke. Ordered another one and me and one of my worker put it on, 2 1/2 man hour later it's on. I do a lot of this kinda work and am no dummy. I was so soijctrwocecjrtwjrmwqexrjm I could scream. As fare as that man that tells you 15 minutes to take the chainsaw off and use it and then put it back on maybe if you have just the right little chain saw you could. I would sell this if I could get anywhere close to what I have into it. Check Craigs list It is going to end up there.

Lewis Wench

I work in sugar sand, and vehicles get stuck weekly. I direct mounted a shil 066 that I don't get much use out of because all the hurricanes have taken down all the big trees. Well this wench will actually start pulling a 2500 truck buried in the sand with barley any throttle: this wench is awesome!
