It is a tricky question to answer because per OSHA there really is nothing that meets their standards for working near power lines. So we cannot recommend this for that purpose. But dry fiberglass poles do not conduct electricity.

As an urban arborist, I appreciate the flexibility of this tool. The assembly is foolproof, the poles are lightweight yet sturdy, the fittings are solid and machined properly. I've been impressed with the longevity of the cutter, but best to keep a small sharpener handy. I purchased the third extension and can attest to its usefulness as well. While you're at it, think about buying the saw head and a blade; you'll be ready to prune.
