It is possible to double line on any winch, including this one. However, the limiting factor on the Capstan Rope Winch is the 3/8" rope, which is not rated to 4000 lbs. The average breaking strength of the rope is 2900 lbs. Any 3/8" 3 strand rope can be used. Anything larger doesn't allow enough wraps around the drum for the proper fiction. Braided ropes don't work as well because they of the diminished friction coefficient; i.e., they are too slick.
