I felt this sharpener was OK for the money. I probably use it more than the average homeowner, so should have gotten something larger. It is a little wobbly, and the motor bogs down way too much with slight down pressure, but again, for the money I could deal with that. What I could not deal with is the fact that after a approximately 20 uses, the motor is cutting out after about 10 minutes of use. Maybe overheating, I'm not sure.

PROS-----this is a very well made for being mostely plastic. it is sturdy. did a good job on my first chain. it is like new again. Was easy to set up. But i do know about sharpening chains in the first place. Not once did it bog down the motor but i only take enough off to get it sharp again..I don't grind a bunch of the tooth off... CONS------- the on off switch has to be pressed all the time to keep the motor on. wish it was just a good ole on/off switch which would make it a lot easier. The clamp knob could be a lever type and not the knob type. If it wasn't for those 2 little,,could be improved,,items i would have given it a 5....thanks again baileys

As with anything, there's positives and negatives. The only negative thing is the motor is gutless. With no downward pressure, when the blade is in full contact with the chain, the motor rpm is about half. Downward pressure almost stalls the motor. I also own the Chinese, $29.00 chain grinder from Harbor Freight. The motor is much stronger, but the chain stop/set lever is very inaccurate. It wobbles a lot and you cannot grind with any consistency. The base/frame of the Sharp Boy is plastic, but pretty strong and well made. With all things considered...the proof of the pudding is in the eating. The Sharp Boy is accurate and ground my first chain to near new condition. It cut like a bandit. I think that if I had the extra $$, I'd get the Maxx.
