Elof Granberg started manufacturing this gem over 50 years ago, which is a testament to the design of this tool. It has been copied numerous times over the years, but most have yet to match the quality. This guide allows you to file your chain with professional accuracy, right on your bar. You can match the chain manufacturer's recommended angles perfectly with this device. It attaches to your guide bar in seconds and is made of metal precision guides and stop. Designed for round chainsaw files only. File not included.

Q.
Why is this Granberg so much better than the economical $10 filing guide?

Our closeout item was a special purchase we made and we like to pass along the savings to our customers. Our closeout item was a special purchase we made and we like to pass along the savings to our customers. Granberg is a name brand that we will be carrying regularly many years to come. (Hide full answer)
My local shop won't sharpen my ripping chains. I don't feel I'm getting a good result with freehand filing like I can with regular chain. What do you recommend? Is this guide a good solution?
A.
This Grandberg filing guide was invented by the gentleman that we get the Alaskan Mills from. This can file at the 10 degrees required.
I use a 16" & 20" .325 pitch .063 gauge chain. What file do I use and will this machine work on this chain?
A.
The unit can take any size file. For your chain typically the 3/16" size files are recommended by the manufacturers. Many customers also use the 5/32" files for 325 chain.
I have a Granberg but the instructions that come with it are really poor: the photos don't provide enough clarity to see how to set up the guide. How about posting a video on u-tube that demonstrates how one sets up and uses the guide. P.S. I sent the same request to the folks who make the Granberg three months ago and never got a response.
A.
Videos are great and we post any we can get our hands on once they are available. Granberg has just recently made a number of videos for their other products and more are in the works. In the meantime feel free to give us a call to answer any questions you have on the product.
Does this also do depth gauge or just the teeth? If it does not which model will perform both tasks?
A.
This only files the cutter tooth. About the only tool that does both at the same time is the Chainsharp. Put "Chainsharp" in the search field to see all we offer.
Can the Granberg Precision Filing Guide or the Oregon Professional Bar-Mounted Filing Guide sharpen square chisel cutters for example the Oregon 72CL chain?
A.
Greetings - They will not file the chain square. Both guides would turn you 72CL into 72LGX if you used them. The only thing on the market at this time is the ATOP, item # 15280.
Well this filing guide is the best thing since slice bread, easy to set up and man it does a awesome job sharpening.
If you have to buy a sharpening system for your saw this is it, combined it with the stump vise you have a trouble free set of tools. Low cost and you dont need electricity...
For the complete novice or homeowner who wants to sharpen his chains instead of paying $$7-8 per chain for a machine sharpening, the Granberg pays for itself after 3-4 sharpenings or touch ups. However, please realize the instructions that come with it are minimal. They also assume (wrongly in some cases) that your chain (say Oregon)comes with a complete set of specs for sharpening it. Strongly suggest 1st time users try it on 1) the worst chain they own, or 2) shortest chain they own if they own various length chains. Practice makes perfect, and take it slow at first.
I just used this filing guide for the first time today and this works wonderful. Take your time to set it up correctly and you will get wonderful results. I used a cheap electric grinder in the past and it did not do near the job as this little tool. It is not the fastest process in the world but the results are well worth the wait. The directions are kind of poor but if you know the basics of how a chain is sharpened you should have no problems getting this to work. I used this with Save Edge round files that I also got a Baileys.
I ordered this after reading all of its glowing reviews here. I can't return it fast enough. The Granberg File n Joint is absolutely not for novices or those without stellar mechanical skills. I spent more than an hour trying to figure it out using the instructions and all I got was frustrated.
Save your money and learn how to sharpen chains with a file and a standard file guide.
Simple to use, well built quality piece of engineering, precision sharpening every time.
For easy use, put the bar on the saw in a vise when at home, or cut a slot in a stump out in the field. You can't go wrong with this setup.
