How we sell saw chain: Saw chain is sold in several different
ways here at Bailey’s. You can buy it by the drive link, in pre-made
loops or in bulk. If you only need one or two chains, you should buy chain
by the drive link or as a pre-made loop. If you are using chain on a professional
basis, you should buy chain in 100’ rolls (bulk) and use a chain
breaker and spinner to make the loops yourself. Sometimes we have sales
where the pre-made loops are cheaper than buying chain by the roll. Check
it out!

Saw
Chain Characteristics
With over 110 different styles of saw chain, it can seem pretty overwhelming
to pick the correct one for your application. We have broken down the
basic characteristics in easy identifiable parts to help you identify
what you need. Our sales staff is very knowledgeable when it comes to
recommendations, so if you have technical questions, get your chain characteristics
and give us a call.
Kickback
reduction features: Some saw chain has kickback reduction features
which greatly reduce the possibility of chainsaw kickback. Please note
that all cutting chains can kick back, but chain with the above features
can reduce this potential.

Cutter
types: Saw chain is available in a variety of cutter types. We
have broken them down into the four basic cutter types listed below. Each
has a specific use.

Saw
chain pitch & gauge: Pitch is the distance between three
rivets divided by two. The pitch of the chain must match your saw drive
sprocket and bar tip. There are four common types of pitch .370 (Low Profile),
.375, .325 and .404 Gauge is the thickness of the drive link. This must
match the gauge of your bar. There are four different gauges available:
.043 (1.1 mm), .050 (1.3 mm), .058 (1.5 mm) and .063 (1.6 mm).

Chain
sequence: Saw chain is available in three different sequences.
Standard (full comp), Semi-Skip and Skip (full skip). Standard is the
most common sequence and is primarily used on bars up to 24". Full
skip is used primarily on bars 28" and longer. Semi-skip is used
mainly by timber fallers cutting soft, fibrous timber such as redwood
and cedar.
