|Q.||I'd like to set a saw up with a ripping chain and timberjig. Is this saw adequate? Do you think a 460 is too small for this application? Is there another saw you would recommend. Thanks|
|A.||When planning a ripping saw, purchase the biggest you can afford. Logosol recommends even a Stihl 660 that boasts a full 91+CCs. Whereas this Husqvarna 365XT is 65 CCs and the 460R is 60CCs. You wouldn't want to run bigger than a 20" bar on those chainsaws for ripping. That could be all you need depending on your logs though. Once you cut the cants (round part of the log) to square it up for boards, that may be all you need. Ripping requires by its nature longer cuts, so the saw is in the wood a lot longer with higher RPMs than simple cross cutting.|
